New Delhi/Jalandhar, April 29, 2013:The Special Judge for CBI cases, Visakhapatnam has convicted Akella Venkata Subramanya Sastry, the then Income Tax Officer, Eluru, West Godavari District (Andhra Pradesh) U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1) (e) of P.C Act 1988 in Disproportionate Assets case and sentenced him to undergo five years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs.10,000. The Special Judge ordered to confiscate the properties of accused to the tune of Rs.45,84,161 which had already been attached by the court, to the State after the appeal time is over.
The investigation revealed that the accused A. V. S. Sastry, the then Income Tax Officer, Eluru, West Godavari District was in possession of movable and immovable properties disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of about Rs.48.65 lakh.
The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
