Kapurthara, April 29, 2013: The President of India conferred medals on a large number military personnel at an impressive ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan on April 27.
Air Marshal Anil Chopra PVSM AVSM VM VSM, a student of Sainik School Kapurthala, was awarded the ParamVashisht Seva Medal.
The Air Officer, who is a Test Pilot and a Qualified Flying Instructor, has had a distinguished career and was among the first batch of Indian Air Force pilots trained on Mirage 2000 aircraft in France. He has held major Command and staff appointments.
Coming from a family of achievers, his father, Ranbir Chopra was the captain of Indian basketball team in first Asian games. Kapurthala was one among the first group of Sainik Schools in the country established in 1961. The students of class of 1968 from the school have really excelled themselves with four of them having reached four-star status which is a difficult to break record. The other being Lt Gen Gurdeep Singh, Lt Gen AvinashSoneja, and Lt Gen DS Thakur, an official information said.
