Gohar (Mandi), August 8, 2015: As many as 500 people attended a free mega heart and orthopedics check up camp at Maa Durga Temple Dal, Gohar today. The camp was organized by Max Super Speciality Hospital (MSSH), Mohali in association with Nachan Vikas Sabha. A team of senior cardiac surgeons, orthopedicians, dieticians and physiotherapists led by Dr Deepak Puri, Director, Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, MSSH consulted the people during camp.
Mr. Jiwan Lal Gupta, President, Nachan Vikas Sabha said that the main purpose of camp was to bring awareness and advise residents on heart diseases. Mr. Sandeep Dogra, VP, MSSH was also presented during occasion. During camp , Max Hospital staff also distributed free medicines to people besides offering bp, blood sugar, bone mass densitometry and ECG and lipid profile tests.
Mr. Sandeep Dogra said that MSSH was committed towards making specialized healthcare services accessible to all sections of society. Through this free medical camp, our endeavour was to address the health concerns of the people who were often neglected due to distance from good healthcare facility and due to monetary constraints. In line with the Max Group philosophy of ‘Seva-bhav’, we have taken up the initiative to provide free consultation and medicines to the people at the camp.
Dr Deepak Puri said that coronary artery disease has now emerged as the major cause of death worldwide and WHO has predicted India would become the Coronary Capital of the world by 2020. Indians were more susceptible than any other ethnic groups and were affected even at lower blood cholesterol levels. The disease would strike Indians at a much younger age at around 10 years earlier than other communities. The 50% of heart attacks in Indians would occur before the age of 50 years and 25% before 40 years. Not only this, we have three times higher rate of second heart attack within an year and chances of death after the attack were double as compared to our western counterparts..
He said further , in hill state like Himachal , it was very surprising that the prevalence of the disease was on high side. The heart problems were increasing not only in men but also among women.
