New Delhi, August 8, 2015: Haryana Chief Minister Mr.Manohar Lal has demanded a sum of over Rs2547 crore from the Union Government as Central Sales Tax (CST) compensation claim. In this regard the Chief Minister held a meeting with Union Finance and Information and Broadcasting Minister MrArunJaitley at New Delhi today.
The Chief Minister said that the demanded amount includes CST for the years 2011-12 and 2012-13. Apart from the issue of CST and proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Chief Minister also discussed various issues including financial development of the state and strengthening the financial status of the farmers. The Chief Minister said that in order to improve the financial condition of the farmers, the state government desires to strengthen the Cooperative Banks. The Union Minister assured the Chief Minister that the Union Government would look into the discussed matters very positively and would cooperate with the state government to its fullest.
Mr Manohar Lal requested Mr Arun Jaitley to release the CST compensation claim as soon as possible. The Chief Minister apprised the Union Minister that as per the proposed Goods and Services Tax Act, the state government had already reduced CST rate from 4% to 3% and further from 3% to 2% on the request of the Union Government due to which the state government has borne direct loss. He said that neither GST has been implemented so far nor the Union Government has raised the CST rate from 2% to 4%, hence the position needs to be reviewed for the payment of full CST compensation for the years 2013-14 and 2014-15. The Chief Minister requested the Union Minister to deliberate and take quick decision in this regard as the state government is suffering heavy losses of revenue on this account.
In the meeting Resident Commissioner Mr Anand Mohan Sharan and OSD to Chief Minister Mr Vijay Sharma were also present. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
