Chandigarh, June 21, 2015: Speaking in International Day of Yoga celebrations, organised by International Brahmrishi Mission Chandigarh on Exhibition ground here today the Haryana and Punjab Governor and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki, said that Yoga is a part of our tradition for the past hundreds of years, which bestows health benefits and helps in inculcating self discipline. It is Yoga which will make us realise the profound meaning of life to attain higher consciousness. This Day is dedicated at international level to create its profound significance in one and all and this will help in creating World peace.
Prof. Solanki said that today terrorism is raising its head in many countries and gun alone cannot control it. He said in order to root it out we have to change the mindset of the people and for that Yoga practice would play a significant role. He said Yoga will give you good health and sound mind.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. Solanki further said that Yoga has raised the stature of our country in the eyes of the world. The United Nations has accepted the proposal of Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi to make June 21, International Yoga Day. All the 177 member-nations of the United Nation will observe Yoga Day. The stature of India has risen with the acceptance of Yoga by the entire globe.
Earlier, the Administrator visited Sukhna Lake ,early in the morning where UT Administration celebrated first International Day of Yoga. Mrs Bhawna Garg, Special Secretary Finance apprised the Administrator that 11 organisations, institutions, individuals joined hands with the Chandigarh Administration to put up a joint show in the true spirit of yoga, showcased along the pathways of Sukhna lake.
Prof. Solanki showed keen interest where special students of Regional Institute for mentally handicapped were doing yoga. He also interacted with special children.
Later on, the Administrator released balloons to mark the inauguration of International Yoga Day organized by Chandigarh Administration where 300 volunteers from general public and students performed Yoga at Garden of Silence, Regulatory end of Sukhna lake.
Prominent amongst others who participated in the Celebrations included Mr Saravjit Singh, Finance Secretary, Mr. Sandeep Hans, Special Secretary, Mr. Rajbachan Singh Sandhu, ADC, Mr. J.P. Dahiya, ADC and other senior civil and police officers.
