Launching the National Food Security Ordinance 2013 at Panipat on Tuesday, Hooda said that those who opposed it, are not interested in the welfare of the poor. “They had done nothing for the poor, when they were in power. They criticize things only for the hack of it, but do not come forward to discuss the scheme,” he said.
Speaking to media persons shortly after launching the food security scheme, Hooda said the Congress and the poor are complementary to each other. Congress is the only party, which can strengthen the country. He emphatically said that the next elections would bring the Congress back to power.
When asked, how the Congress would be strengthened through the Jind rally, he said the Congress Party drew strength from every public meeting.
Hooda said that the unique food security scheme, which has been launched throughout the state today, aims at providing adequate quantity of quality food to the people at affordable price. He said that the scheme would benefit more than 1.26 crore people in the State. Half of the population of Haryana would directly benefit from the scheme, which would provide them rice, wheat and coarse grains at subsidised rates of Rs 3, Rs 2, and Re 1, respectively. 12.84 lakh BPL families would get two kg sugar per month at the subsidised rate of Rs.13.5 per kg per family. All eligible beneficiaries would get benefit under the scheme from August 20, 2013,
Haryana Chief Minister said that the state government has started ‘Dal Roti Scheme’, under which 2.5 kilogram daal per month would be given at the subsidized rate of Rs 20 per kg per family. However, the benefit would be given from August 20, 2013 to all eligible persons, he added.
Earlier, while launching the National Food Security Ordinance,  Hooda said that the UPA Government under the guidance of Mrs Sonia Gandhi and leadership of the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, had taken a historical decision to launch the scheme in the interest of the poor. It would benefit about 67 per cent of the country’s population.
He expressed happiness that such a unique scheme was being launched in Haryana, along with Delhi and Uttarakhand on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He complimented the officers for implementing such a big scheme in such a short time.
Congratulating the people on the occasion of the Rakshabandhan, Hooda said that the UPA Government had taken many decisions to realise the dream of the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi (who dreamt of food, clothing and house for everyone) and our freedom fighters. Haryana is also giving highest wages of Rs 214 per day in the country under MNREGA Scheme.
He said that the Haryana Government had taken a number of decisions for the welfare of the poor. To enable people to realize their dream of a having a house, the state government has made a provision of Rs 1,350 crore in the Budget for 2013-14.
Two lakh houses would be constructed in the rural areas and 1.5 lakh in the urban areas to ensure house cover to the poor. Under Affordable Housing Policy 1.25 lakh flats would be constructed in next three years.
