New Delhi/Jalandhar, August 5, 2013: The Special Judge for CBI cases, Silvassa has convicted Jyoti Patel, the then Sub Inspector of Police Outpost Pipariya, Silvassa (Dadra & Nagar Haveli) and sentenced her to undergo three years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs.12,000 in a bribery case. One Private Person S. Thirumalai was also convicted and sentenced to undergo one year Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. 2,000.
The CBI had registered case against Jyoti Patel and S. Thirumalai Kumaran (a private person) Under Sections, 120-B of the Indian Penal Code(IPC) read with Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act Act, 1988 and Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988 on the allegation that the accused entered in criminal conspiracy with private person and demanded an illegal gratification of Rs.2,000 from the complainant for not arresting him in a FIR (No.146/10 dt.10/6/2010) registered against him in the Police Station Silvassa.
A charge-sheet was filed on December 15, 2010 in the court of Special Judge for CBI cases, Silvassa against Jyoti Patel and S. Thirumalai Kumaran.
The Trial Court found both the accused guilty and convicted them.
