Jalandhar, June 10, 2013: The Special Judge, CBI cases, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) has convicted Gunraj Ram, the then Branch Manager, Central Bank of India, Barkoda Branch, District Shahdol (M.P.) and a private person, Hanuman Prasad Tiwari in a bribery case. Gunraj Ram was sentenced to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.11,000 and Hanuman Prasad Tiwari, who was acting as a tout of accused public servant, was also sentenced to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs 1,000.
A chargesheet was filed by CBI before the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Jabalpur on 28.06.2010 under section 120-B IPC and 7 & 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of PC Act, 1988, alleging that accused Gunraj Ram, Branch Manager, Central Bank of India, Barkoda Branch, District Shahdol (M.P.) and Hanuman Prasad Tiwari, a contractual teacher, entered into a criminal conspiracy with each other. In pursuance thereof, on July 25, 2009, the accused demanded a bribe amount of Rs 3,500 from the complainant for sanctioning and disbursement of KCC loan amounting to Rs 35,000 in the name of complainant’s mother. Hanuman Prasad Tiwari was caught red handed by CBI on July 29, 2009 while demanding and accepting a part bribe amount of Rs. 2000 from the complainant and Gunraj Ram was caught red handed while accepting the said bribe amount from Hanuman Prasad Tiwari.
The Trial Court found both the accused guilty and convicted them.
