A trekking expedition being flagged off, on Monday from Amritsar. This expedition will start from Uttarkashi and will be culminated at Gaurikund in the Garhwal Himalayas.
Jalandhar, June 10, 2013: A trekking expedition was flagged off, today from Amritsar. This expedition will start from Uttarkashi and will be culminated at Gaurikund in the Garhwal Himalayas. The team comprises of two officers, three junior commissioned officers and ten other ranks.
Armoured Regiment based in Amritsar launched a Trekking Expedition of epic proportions which would set a Benchmark for the environ as well as for other soldiers to emulate in future. Indian Army is known for its indomitable courage, passion, hope and resolve to protect and nurture our motherland. It has made great inroads into the domain of adventure activities be it conquering the “SAGARMATHA” or exploring the southernmost part of South Pole.
The expedition team will cover a distance of 152 Kms over a route that would take them over the Khatling Glacier at a height of 5,500 meters (16500 feet). The Khatling glacier is a lateral glacier, at the source of the river Bhilangana in the Garhwal Himalayas. The team is also enthusiastic about providing aid and succor to the locals, educating them to maintain eco balance and the importance of nation building by leading by example.
While addressing the august gathering, the Chief Guest, mentioned that the Regiment had carried out numerous adventure activities for its troops in the past ranging from an expedition to the Andamans, cycling expeditions in the Himalyas and treks to remote areas of Himachal Pradesh and Garhwal Himalayas. These expeditions were aimed at connecting to the nation, encouragement to the “Scholar Warriors” to seek greater glory and to explore the hidden marvels of bravery amongst themselves and they have led to a perceptible impact on the espirit-de-corps and the ELAN of the unit.
