Jalandhar, June 7, 2013: The Designated Court has convicted Ram Badan Singh, the then Senior Treasury Officer(Accounts), BSNL office, Bihar Sharif in a disproportionate assets case and sentenced him to undergo five years rigorous imprisonment U/s 13(1)(e) r/w 13(2) of PC Act, 1988 with a fine of Rs. 4,00,000.
CBI had registered a case on February 10, 2004, on the complaint from Bihar Telecom Circle against Ram Badan Singh, then Sr. Treasury Officer Accounts (T), Bihar Sharif. It was alleged that he misappropriated approximately Rs.31 lakh of telecom revenue collected in Bihar Sharif. During investigation of this case, disproportionate assets possessed by accused Ram Badan Singh were unearthed.
The investigation revealed that the accused Ram Badan Singh, the then Sr. T.O.A., BSNL office, Bihar Sharif amassed the movable as well as immovable assets to the tune of more than Rs 14,35,315 which were disproportionate to his known sources of his income to the tune of about Rs 6,00,000.
After investigation, CBI filed chargesheet on November 30, 2004 in the CBI Court.
The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
