Maneka Gandhi in Dharamsala to participate in 55th anniversary of Tibetan Democracy Day

Dharamsala, September 1, 2015: Union minister for woman and child development Maneka Gandhi arrived in Dharamsala on Tuesday to participate in  a program being organized by Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) to commemorate 55th anniversary of Tibetan Democracy Day on Wednesday, September2. Central Tibetan Administration will mark the 55th Tibetan Democracy Day on 2nd September 2015 at Tsuglakhang , the main Tibetan Temle at Mecleodganj . Tibetan Democracy Day is celebrated by the exile government to commemorate the formation assembly of Tibetan People’s deputies on September 2, 1960, in exile. It was on this day that the Tibetan people’s representatives took oath of office at Dharamsala and marks the first major step taken by the Central Tibetan Administration under the leadership of spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, towards democracy.
Acccording to Tsering Wangchuk, Press Officer CTA, the function will start from 9:30 am.
He said,” Shri Shanta Kumar (MP and Convener of All Party Indian Parliamentary Forum on Tibet) and Smt. Meneka Gandhi (Minister of Women and Child Development and co-convener of APIPFT) will grace the event presided by heads of the CTA.”
Meanwhile, Gandhi, on first day of her tour, visited the Norbulingka Institute and Monastery at Sidhpur near Dharamsala.  She, however, refrained from interacting with media.
