Chandigarh, January 9, 2013: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has constituted a nine-member committee headed by the State Chief Secretary to formulate a policy to finalise the identification of martyrs of Kuka Movement, Kamagata Maru episode and Jallianwala Bagh massacre after proper verification with due diligence and care so that the next of their kin could be extended either one time financial assistance or other facilities already payable to the freedom fighters as per the recommendations of the committee.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that the Chief Minister has asked the Committee to submit its report along with proposed policy with its recommendations to award pension or other facilities to the descendents/legal heirs of these historic movements of Indian freedom struggle at the earliest as a gratitude to these unsung heroes.
The other members of the committee would be Principal Secretary Freedom Fighter, Financial Commissioner Revenue, Principal Secretary Finance, Joint Secretary/Director Freedom Fighter Ministry of Home, Government of India, Director Archives Punjab and Deputy Commissioner Amritsar. Meanwhile the Secretary Freedom Fighter and Special Secretary Freedom Fighter would be the Convener and Member Secretary of the committee respectively, added the spokesperson.
