Chandigarh, May 13, 2015: In view of the ongoing summer season, the Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has directed the Power Department to ensure uninterrupted scheduled power supply in the State especially during night hours. Besides, he directed the senior officers of the department to keep a check on unscheduled power cuts and tripping.

The Chief Minister was presiding over a meeting of Power Department here today.

He also asked the department to evolve an effective mechanism by which feeder wise details of power cuts could be instantly generated. This, he said, would not only facilitate the efficient monitoring of power supply in the State but would also help to take prompt action to  rectify any technical fault for early restoration of power supply.  At present, there were about 7000 feeders in the State.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister also reviewed the process for the setting up of 800 MW Super Critical Unit at Panipat Thermal Power Station at Panipat in place of four old units of Thermal Power Station. The Government of India has already approved the transfer of coal linkage for this proposed Unit. Manohar Lal suggested that the supply of coal right from mines to power plant should be made in sealed wagons to prevent theft of coal during its transportation and also to maintain its quality. He also asked the concerned officers to take up this matter with the Railways.

While reviewing the action plan of renewable energy department, the Chief Minister directed the officers to popularize the use of solar power in the State and make it a mass movement. In Haryana, it has been made mandatory to install rooftop solar power systems on plot size of 500 square yards or more. He also asked the officers to explore the possibilities to attract maximum people towards the usage of solar power. Haryana has a target to generate about 15 per cent renewable energy by year 2022.
