Dharamsala, April 24, 2015: The Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda met Prakash Javadekar, Minister of State, Environment and Forests to discuss the issue related to enhancement of the powers of the state government of Himachal Pradesh for diversion of forest, in Delhi on Friday. Currently, the state government is delegated powers for diversion of land upto 1 Ha. Successive state governments of Himachal Pradesh have been demanding enhancement of powers upto 5 Ha for faster development.
As such Nadda (who belongs to HP), requested Javadekar to enhance powers of the State Government from the existing 1 hectare to 5 hectares, with a plea that this step has all the potential to give a big fillip to development activities in the State of Himachal Pradesh.
Nadda stated in a press release that the Environment Minister has assured that he will immediately look into this issue and initiate appropriate action in this regard.
During Nadda’s recent visit to Shimla, CM Himachal Pradesh and the State Government officers had apprised the Health Minister about the problems faced by them with regard to diversion of forest land. In view of the notification of 1952, most of the government land is classified as forest land thus impeding development in the state.
