Jalandhar/Ferozepur, February 28, 2015: In an impressive Investiture Ceremony, Lieutenant General KJ Singh, AVSM(BAR) General Officer Commanding–in-Chief Western Command, presented Gallantry and Distinguished Service awards for the acts of valour and distinguished service to 26 Officers, Junior commissioned Officers and Jawans at Ferozepur Cantt on 28 Feb 2015. This solemn and colourful Investiture Ceremony was organised by Golden Arrow Division under the aegis of Vajra Corps.
The awards presented included One Yudh Seva Medal, 14 Sena Medals (gallantry), three Sena Medal (Distinguished) and 08 Vishist Seva Medals. The Army Cdr also conferred Unit Citation to fourteen units of Western command for their outstanding contribution to the Army and local populace in the preceding year.
Besides the soldiers, their families and retired army personnel attended the glittering function. Serving Officers of Police, Civil Administration and Para-Military Forces were also invited to witness the ceremony. Prominent amongst those present were Lieutenant General NPS Hira, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps, Major General SC Meston, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding, Golden Arrow Division and a number of other senior serving officers of Western Command.
The awardees and their guests earlier visited the Martyr’s Memorial at Hussainiwala on 27 Feb 2015 and paid tributes at the Samadhis of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. A scintillating band concert was also presented by the Band of 14 Gorkha Training Centre on 26 Feb 2015.
