Dharamsala, January 24, 2015: Himachal Pradesh is the state where people have to travel only by road, due to almost absence of rail and air links. Beside this other kind of heavy transportation of machinery, food and building material is also being carried by road to the every nook and corner of this hill state. The state is fast developing and is a leading state in the Himalayan and north Indian arena. But due to absence of railway in the state its roads are overloaded by the all kinds of vehicular traffic. Himachal is also a favourite tourist destination, which brings another load of vehicles to the state. Most of the roads are narrow and zigzagged, which are very unsafe if extra care is not being taken during driving.
According to the figures available 3934 road accidents occurred in year 2011 in Himachal. The figure constantly witnessed an increasing trend with 4448 road accidents reported in 2012 and 4862 in 2013. The figure of road accidents witnessed steep hike in 2014 as 6764 road accidents were reported this year in Himachal. The numbers of people killed in road accidents were 5963 in 2011, 6715 in 2012, and 6650 in 2013 and the figure increased to 8858 in 2014.
A survey carried by GVK EMRI 108 National Ambulance Services has revealed that out of 503 black spots on roads of Himachal, 171 are turning out to be bloodthirsty. Repeated accidents on these spots have become a routine issue. According to survey report, these emergency services have saved the lives of 859 people last year, who were seriously injured in road accidents.
Out of the 12 districts of Himachal, Kangra Witnessed Maximum Road Accidents in 2014. The figure of road accidents in Kangra is 5703 followed by Una where 3861 accidents were recorded last year . Mandi recorded 3813, Solan 3809 and Shimla 3147 . Whereas the minimum road accidents during 2014 were registered 138 in Lahoul Spiti and 175 in Kinour.
