Ferozepur, January 23, 2015: Yet another smuggling bid was foiled by the BSF personnel at the Border Outpost Satpal, near Ferozepur and seized 13 packets of contraband, suspected to be heroin after an exchange of fire last night.
Anil Palwal, IG, BSF, Punjab Frontier, while addressing the media persons said that special Ops alert was launched along the border following directions from HQrs special western command. On the intervening night of 22nd January, the troops of Ex-105 Bn, deployed a BOP Satpal spotted some suspicious movement and challenged the Pakistani smugglers. Sensing danger, the Pakistani smugglers fired at the BSF troops. To stop their misadventure, the BSF troops also opened fire in self defense. The IG said that four rounds were fired by the Pakistani smugglers and 13 rounds were fired by the BSF.
However, taking advantage of foggy weather, darkness and wheat crop the smugglers managed to flee. Later during the search 13 packets of contraband, suspected to be heroin along with one China made pistol, 1 magazine and 4 rounds of ammunition were recovered.
The IG said that the BSF personnel are ever vigilant and dedicated to their duty.
In January 2015, the BSF had recovered 25.66 Kgs heroin from the border till now.
