Ludhiana, December 28, 2014: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment and MP from Hoshiarpur, Vijay Sampla today said that the union government is constructing a memorial in the memory of Dr B R Ambedkar in Delhi. He said that this memorial would be one of its kind and would be developed at the same piece of land where Dr B R Ambedkar breathed his last. He said that an amount of Rs 100 crore would be spent for this purpose by the union government and the foundation stone of this memorial would be laid by April next year.
Vijay Sampla was on his maiden visit to the city after assuming the charge as Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment.
After releasing a calendar of the year 2015 in a function organised by BJP SC Morcha, he said that several political parties claim to have preserved the ideology of Dr B R Ambedkar, but in reality it's the BJP which has always adopted and followed Dr Ambedkar';s ideology. He said that it was the BJP which helped Dr Ambedkar to become a Rajya Sabha member whereas the Congress had opposed him.
He said that it is only the Bharatiya Janata Party which has worked for the upliftment of Dalit';s and downtrodden strata of the society. He said their party's ideology focuses on work and not self glorification as done by some political parties over this issue.

He also made his stand clear over the issue of forcible conversions. He said that no person should be forced to convert his religion, but as India is a democratic country, here, every citizen has the right to choose which religion or ideology he wants to adopt. "Conversion of religion forcefully is wrong," he said during the press conference.
During a visit to Viklang Sahayta Kendra in Rishi Nagar, the union minister offered all out support to the organisation running this centre. He said that this centre is registered under his ministry and said that timely funds would be allocated to all such social organisations and NGO';s which are doing real service of the society.
