Dharamsala, December 28, 2014: The first lot of buses received under Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) from the union government shall be on roads from December 30 onwards in Himachal Pradesh.
These buses shall ply on at least half a dozen routes from Nagrota Bagwan (constituency of Transport Minister) by G S Bali.
Stating this in Dharamsala on Sunday state transport minister Bali said, “These buses will run on fixed fare in local vicinities of the state and shall charge less fare (30 to 50 per cent less) than normal routes. The first batch shall run on Palampur-Nagrota-Dharamsala-Kangra-Pathankot-Chintpurni routes.”
Minister said that these buses are more spacious, comfortable and will cover the area in less time as they will stop only on fixed stations. Mister said that the corporation (HRTC) has received 80 buses so far, which will start playing in other areas of the state soon.
Bali said these buses were the size of Volvo buses and could ply on same roads.
He said 800 buses have been sanctioned under the JNNURM for the state. Out of these, the bigger buses were for city transport and plain areas, while for other parts there were mini buses.
He said the centre had sanctioned Rs.202.11 crore to the state for purchasing buses. The proposal for the buses was approved by the previous UPA government in October 2013 but Rs.90 crore was received by the state government only recently.
Bali is also opening a new HRTC Depot on December 30 at Nagrota Bagwan in Kangra district.
