Two years rigorous imprisonment to then Inspector of Railways in separate cases of bribery

New Delhi, December 19, 2014:The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Madurai (Tamil Nadu) has convicted  P.V.Reddy, then Sub Divisional Engineer of Southern Railway for accepting a bribe of Rs.1 lakh from the Complainant and sentenced him to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.2 lakhs. The Court has further ordered for confiscation of Rs.2,00,000 that was seized from the residence of the accused.

CBI had registered a case against P.V. Reddy, Sub Divisional Engineer, Southern Railway, Trichy (Tamil Nadu) based on a complaint. It was alleged that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs.1,00,000/- from the Complainant for recommending the proposal for Railway platform extension agreement made with him. After registration of the case, a trap was laid by CBI and Shri. P.V. Reddy was caught red handed while he demanded and accepted bribe of Rs.1,00,000 from the Complainant.

 Further, an amount of Rs. 2,00,000 was also seized from the residence of P. V. Reddy during the searches conducted by CBI. A charge sheet was filed against the accused U/s 7 & 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

In another case, the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Ranchi has convicted Sameer Kumar Dutta, then Personnel Inspector, SE Railway, Tata Nagar, Jamshedpur in a bribery case and sentenced him to undergo two years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.20,000 U/s 7 of PC Act, 1988 and U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.

CBI had registered a case U/s 7 of PC Act, 1988 against Sameer Kumar Dutta, Personnel Inspector, SE Railway, Tata Nagar, Jamshedpur for demanding a bribe of Rs.5000 from the Complainant for showing favour in fixation of family pension of his father. CBI laid a trap and Sameer Kumar Dutta was arrested while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.5000 from the Complainant.

The Trial Court found the accused persons guilty and convicted him.
