New Delhi, December 15, 2014: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a field officer, State Bank of India, Markarpuram Branch, District Prakasam for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from the Complainant.
A case was registered against field officer, State Bank of India, Markapuram Branch, Prakasam District, on the allegations of demanding a bribe of Rs.5,000 from the complainant for reducing the SBI Life Insurance premium amount from Rs. 40,000 to 30,000 per annum.
It was alleged that the wife of complainant working as a Teacher at Rayavaram had applied for a personal loan of Rs. 4,00,000 from SBI, Markapuram Branch, where she was having salary account. When the sanction of the loan was under process, the field officer of SBI told the complainant and his wife that it was mandatory to take SBI Life Insurance Policy at a premium of 10% of the loan amount of Rs. 4,00,000, worked out to be Rs. 40,000 premium per annum. The complainant received a message from SBI that the loan was sanctioned.
On the same day, the field officer went to the house of the complainant and demanded an amount of Rs. 5,000 for reducing the premium amount from Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 30,000 and also informed that otherwise the SBI Life Insurance Policy would be processed at Rs. 40,000, without any reduction. CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed while demanding & accepting the bribe of Rs. 5,000 from the complainant.
The arrested accused was produced before the Special Judge for CBI cases, Visakhapatnam, who remanded him to judicial custody till 23.12.2014.
