New Delhi, December 1, 2014: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar here on Monday met the Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal for providing uninterrupted power supply in the State and for effective power generation and its transmission.
The Chief Minister said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the vision that the people of the country are provided with 24 hour electricity supply. Haryana Government is also committed to ensure round the clock electricity supply to consumers of the state. To achieve this, the State Government has also initiated the process in this direction to coordinate the efforts of Central Government. While giving consent on state participation for schemes of better power supply in Central government schemes, the Chief Minister said that Government was of the view that every village and farm could get adequate power. The Chief Minister said that there is a need to change time-worn electricity wire in major part of the state.
Piyush Goyal assured Manohar Lal that Union Government would provide all possible help to Haryana for providing round the clock power supply to state. He said that recently the Prime Minister had launched Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti and IPDS schemes for effective power distribution. Under these schemes, infrastructure facilities for power distribution would be strengthened besides arranging separate feeders for domestic and agriculture sector in rural and urban areas. The State Government had to share about 20 per cent cost under these schemes and rest amount would be borne out by the Union Government.
The Union Power Minister assured the Chief Minister that there would be no interruption of power supply due to shortage of coal. He said that similar efforts have also been made at Centre also as per which it is made sure that coal being supplied to thermal power plants fulfill the quality standards. The Union Minister said that effective steps need to be taken for preventing the cases of electricity theft. The Central Government would provide adequate support for uninterrupted power supply in the state.
Those present on this occasion included Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sanjeev Kaushal, Additional Chief Secretary Power Rajan Gupta, Joint Secretary Power, Government of India Jyoti Arora, OSD to Chief Minister Jawahar Yadav and other senior officers.
