Ferozepur, October 5, 2014: Responding to the desire of the residents of Ferozepur regarding Heritage Status for Bhagat Singh’s hideout at Turi Bazaar, the Ferozepur Deputy Commissioner Er DPS Kharbanda, himself went there today and collected information regarding this place.
Er Kharbanda, said that the administration will leave no stone unturned for the “Heritage Status” for this place. Talking to the media persons, he said that it is an honour for all of us to be at the place where martyrs like Bhagat Singh and Chander Shekhar Azaad have visited and stayed. He said that he understands the sentiments of the residents of this place and shall send a comprehensive report to the Archeological Department. The Punjab Government has deputed him for the task and he will not let anybody down. He said that sooner or later, the dream of the residents of this area of converting this building into a Museum will be fulfilled.
The Deputy Commissioner has called for a meeting on Tuesday at District Administrative Complex and has invited everybody who could throw more light on the issue.
It is pertinent to mention here that there is building situated at Turi Bazaar which was reportedly used by Legendry Revolutionary Bhagat Singh and his accomplices as hideout. People of this area have always demanded “Heritage Status” for this place but all their requests seemed to have fallen on deaf years. Even after a visit of a team from Archeological Survey of India, nothing has been done. But it seems that with the efforts of Er. DPS Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur, this place will get its due very soon.
