While addressing the august gathering of educationists from across the SAARC countries, Sant Seechewal said, “It is all the more important for educated people to have human values. It is expected of the uneducated lot – they may or may not have this virtue, it will not affect the society as much. However, if educated people do not possess it, it can be very damaging.”
Other prominent speakers on the second day were Ganesh Bagadia formerly associated with Harcourt Butler Technological Institute, Kanpur; Prof. RR Gaur formerly associated with Department of Mechanical Engineering and National Resource Centre for Value Education in Engineering (NRCVEE), IIT Delhi; and Rajul Asthana, Former Vice President, Satyam Computer Services – three great evangelists of human values in higher education who have been working incessantly in this domain.
Dr. Jagmeet Bawa, Head, Department of Human Values, PTU summarised the developments of Day 1 of the international conference while Dr. Buta Singh Sidhu, Dean – Academics, PTU spoke on implementation of value education in the University. Later on a panel discussion was held on reorienting higher education. The main question raised during the panel discussion was - How do we implement value education keeping it universal? Should value education be logical, verifiable and address all aspects of living? Dr. Nachattar Singh, Director, Cooperative Bank, Jalandhar while chairing this panel discussion said, "Students pass out of the secondary schools and take admissions into institutes, colleges and universities for higher education and therefore, human values should be introduced much earlier into the education system. Besides, parents should also inculcate human values into their wards for making them responsible citizens." Along with educationists from India, senior dignitaries from Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Pakistan also shared their views on the subject as panelists.
This was followed by special sessions wherein teachers, students as well as management from across various universities and institutes shared their personal experiences in implementation of human values in higher education.//jalandhar news, jalandhar current news, jalandhar news live, jalandhar breaking news, jalandhar headlines, kapurthala news, jalandhar latest news, india news, punjab news, punjab news live, punjab news online, punjab news, punjab news headlines, punjab breaking news, india news, punjab news,
