Jalandhar, February 26, 2014: High degree of preparation and coordination of efforts by all agencies, including Army, is the only answer to deal with this threat of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) disasters. Towards this aim, Exercise Vajra Sahayata, a mock drill on aid to civil authority in a CBRN disaster situation, was conducted, at Army Public School, Jalandhar Cantt by the Vajra Corps to synergize the efforts of all stake holders and check the preparedness to face such crisis.
The aim of this Mock Drill was to practice deployment drills of CBRN Quick Reaction Team (QRT), Quick Reaction Medical Team (QRMT) and Co-Opted troops in rendering aid to civil administration in a CBRN disaster related scenario perpetuated due to terrorist action.
The Exercise Vajra Sahayata, saw experts of Indian Army, National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and civil administration of Jalandhar put together their expertise to arrive at workable contingency plan. The situation involved activation of low level dirty bomb by Non-state Actors at an education institute located in the vicinity of civil areas in Jalandhar Cantt and was action by Nuclear Biological and Chemical (NBC) suit clad quick reaction rescue and medical teams of Army and NDRF to effectively control the damage. The exercise showcased an effective and reliable response system set up by the Army. The synergized action of the local police and medical authorities displayed the resolve, grit and determination of the civil administration to put in place an effective disaster management system.
