Faridabad (Haryana), February 8, 2014: Surajkund Mela Authority stated that the Food Court has been set up as per the taste of the people with a perfect combination of traditional and modern mouth watering cuisines. It is also being ensured that cleanliness is maintained and there is a provision of several garbage bins in the Mela premises. RO water kiosks have been installed at various places to provide safe and clean drinking water to visitors. Surajkund Mela Authority frequently conducts surveys to make sure that high standards of food quality are maintained throughout the fortnight.
Each food stall in the Mela churns out an indigenous recipe, which is worth a mention. From theme state Goa’s Fried Fish, Masala fried Prawns, Chicken Cafreal, Patal Bhaji to Partner Nation Sri Lanka’s Rice Curry, Kottu & Coconut Rotty and get the taste of Jama Masjid’s Purani Delhi-6 Mughlai dishes like Chicken Changezi, Chicken Nahari, Chicken Shami Kabab and Jaipur’s Dal Bhatti Churma -- there is a lot to choose from.
The street food ‘Aloo tikki’, ‘Golgappe’, ‘Chaat’, and ‘Pav Bhaji’ are the much sought after at the Mela. ‘Bhelpuri’ and ‘Kulfi’ are to be seen in almost every visitor’s hands.
Chana Fernando of The Sovereign, a hotel in Sri Lanka, who is the in-charge of the stall set up here, tells, “People are very happy to eat our authentic Sri Lankan delicacies being cooked by Sri Lankan chefs at out stall. They take keen interest in knowing about our recipes and they love our tea.”
‘Nariyal Pani’ is also available, which works as a perfect thirst quencher. Traditional foods of North India like ‘Rajma Chawal’, ‘Chole Bature’, Hyderabadi ‘biryanis’, saag makki ki roti and Gohana’s kesariya jaleba being the must-haves for any visitor in the Mela.
Combining the traditions with modernity, a pizza company stall has also been set up at the Food Court. Special food stalls of South Indian dishes are also quite popular with the visitors. Hot and cold beverages like tea, cold drinks and shakes are made accessible at different places.
Hot ‘Gulab Jamuns’, ‘Gajar Ka Halwa’ teamed up with ice cold ‘Chuskis’ are ideal desserts for everybody. Cultural performances in the Food Court add to the wholesome entertainment to the visitors and one could see the Food Court packed to its capacity most of the time.
Not to miss, Institute of Hotel Management of Faridabad and Panipat have also set up stalls that are rustling up a variety of delicacies including Frontier cuisines and street food. The students of the institutes are getting hands-on training while maintaining high standard of hygiene and quality.
The Surajkund International Crafts Mela epitomizes all that one could fantasize for an ideal retreat on the weekend. The visitors are more than happy to be a part of this splendid event and its popularity can be gauged by the fact that the footfall was increasing with each passing minute.
For those with an eye for photography, the Surajkund International Crafts Mela offers an ideal platform for getting recognised for your talent. A photography competition will be organised during the Mela on the 10th February for amateur photographers only. The applicants are required to submit photographs in the size 5” x 7” with title (titles are optional- but titles add to the impact of the photograph). The details of the photographs, if any, should be on a separate paper including the technical aspect of equipment used. The applicant may submit more than one photograph or a series of photographs but submit only the best.
