Punjab News/Badal reviews arrangements for foundation stone laying function of Super Specialty Cancer Treatment and Research Centre at Mullanpur

The Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Syunday reviews the arrangements for the foundation stone laying function of the Super Specialty Cancer Treatment and Research Centre at Mullanpur near Chandigarh on December 30 to be presided over by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Chandigarh, December 22, 2013: The Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today reviewed the arrangements for the foundation stone laying function of the Super Specialty Cancer Treatment and Research Centre at Mullanpur near Chandigarh on December 30 to be presided over by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

The upcoming Cancer Hospital & Research centre would be developed and established by Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC) on the lines of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai at the cost of Rs. 450 Crore.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that Badal convened a special meeting of senior leadership of the SAD-BJP from Patiala, Fathegarh Sahib, Mohali and Ropar districts here at Punjab Bhawan to monitor the preparatory arrangements and held detailed parleys with the top leadership and party workers to elicit their views to make this function a memorable event. He apprised them in the meeting that after the formal clearance of this project by the department of Atomic Energy, which was headed by Dr. Manmohan Singh himself, made a personal request to the Prime Minister, to lay the foundation stone of this coveted project which was an outcome of his (Badal’s) persistent efforts to get it sanctioned from the Government of India.
It may be recalled that the Punjab Government had given 50 acres of prime land in Mullanpur free of cost for this prestigious mega Cancer Health care institute.
Expressing gratitude to Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Chief Minister said that he was personally indebted to him for clearing this prestigious Cancer Research and Treatment project expeditiously to provide the best health care and diagnostic facilities to the patients afflicted with Cancer in the region and was overwhelmed too by Dr. Singh’s benevolent gesture to accept his invitation graciously to lay its foundation stone on December 30.
Prominent amongst others who attended the meeting included Surjit Singh Rakhra, Madan Mohan Mittal (both Cabinet Ministers), Senior Akali leaders Mr. Balwant Singh Ramoowalia and Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra besides several prominent leaders and workers of SAD-BJP.
