Seven years rigorous imprisonment to Abu Salem in forgery case

New Delhi/Jalandhar, November 29, 2013: The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Hyderabad, has today sentenced accused Abu Salem(Private Person) to undergo seven years Rigorous Imprisonment with total fine of Rs.4000 in a forgery case.
CBI had registered a case on 20.09.2002 against Abu Salem and others.  In this case, Abu Salem; Rubeen and Monica Bedi impersonated as Ramil Kamil Malik, Neha Asis Jafari and Sana Malik Kamal and obtained forged passports respectively by furnishing false addresses & false documents. After completion of investigation, CBI filed charge sheet against Abu Salem and others on 22.12.2004. Since Abu Salem could not be produced before the Court in connection with the TADA cases at Mumbai, the case against Abu Salem was split up.
The co-accused  Monika Bedi and 3 others were convicted by the trial court on 29.09.06. Monika Bedi was sentenced to undergo 5 years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.1000 U/s 420 IPC; 3 years Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.500 U/s 419 IPC; 3 years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.500 U/s 120-B IPC.   Monika Bedi preferred an SLP against the judgement and the Supreme Court on 09.11.2010 confirmed the conviction and reduced the sentence to the period already undergone by her.
