Chandigarh, September 14, 2013: Punjab and Haryana High Court organised one day North Zone Regional Conference on Mediation at Chandigarh Judicial Academy on Saturday.
Divulging the details a spokesperson of Punjab and Haryana High Court said that the Conference was attended by Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri, Judge, Supreme Court of India along with Judges from Punjab & Haryana High Court, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh High Court and Uttarakhand High Court apart from all the District & Sessions Judges from the States of Punjab, Haryana and U.T., Chandigarh, Member Secretaries of State Legal Services Authorities of participating States and all other members of Mediation Committee of the participating States.
Spokesperson said that Mediation is the process by which the litigant parties together with the assistance of a neutral person or persons, sit together in order to resolve their disputes in an amicable manner. The Mediator assists in considering all the available options to help the parties to reach a consensual agreement to resolve their disputes. He said “Mediation is a dynamic process in which the mediator assists the parties to negotiate a compromise for resolving their disputes.”
Apart from Inaugural Session, three Brainstorming Sessions and Interactive Sessions on Mediation activities in the States, Challenges and solutions in Mediation and Future Plans for encouraging Mediation were also held, he added.
