BADAL deputes Chief Secretary to monitor rescue operation of Sri Hemkund Sahib pilgrims

Chandigarh, June 17, 2013: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today directed the Punjab Chief Secretary to extend all help and support to the Uttrakhand Government in launching a massive operation to rescue the victims who had been stuck on the way to Sri Hemkund Sahib due to heavy rain causing road blockades at several places

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s office said that the chief Minister also directed the state government to take immediate necessary measures to ensuring the safe home coming of the Sikh pilgrims. Thousands of pilgrims had been trapped as Sri Hemkund Sahib had been cut off from rest of the state due to bad weather followed by floods.

The spokesperson informed that the Chief Secretary Punjab Rakesh Singh and MLA Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema were in continues touch with Uttrakhand government. The Punjab government was providing all type of assistance to the Uttrakhand where rescue operation was going on at war footing, added the spokesperson.
