Jalandhar, January 13, 2013: Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda has announced increase of Rs. 45 per quintal for all the three crops of sugarcane. He announced the increase in sugarcane price in the presence of delegates of various sugarcane farmer organisations, who called on him in New Delhi on Sunday.
The farmers will now get Rs. 276 per quintal against Rs 231 per quintal for the earlier crop of sugarcane for the 2012-13 crop season. For middle crop the price will be Rs. 271 against Rs. 226 per quintal and for later crop it will be Rs. 266 against Rs. 221 per quintal.
Hooda said he was son of farmer and he would not take any such decision, which might be against the interest of the farmers. In Haryana, for five years, the farmers had got maximum price for sugarcane as compared to other states, he said, adding this time UP had increased the price of sugarcane by Rs 40 per quintal and he announced the increase of Rs. 45 per quintal.
Hooda said in Haryana, the electricity rates for agriculture were less than half as compared to the rates in UP. State government was also giving subsidy of Rs. 3,800 crore on electricity for agriculture, he revealed.
The delegates thanked Hooda for announcement and assured him that agitation would be withdrawn and sugar mills would also start working again.
