Sanskrit to be made mandatory in government schools-Chief Minister

Shimla, August 17, 2015: Sanskrit will be made a mandatory subject in all Government schools said Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh, while presiding over the meeting of Himachal Sanskrit Academy here today.

He directed to complete the formalities to take over Tungesh Sanskrit College at Cheog soon so that it could be run in a better way.

The Chief Minster urged the Academy members to continue with their activities and make earnest efforts to promote Sanskrit and said that there would not be any dearth of funds to the Academy from the State Government to run its affairs. He also asked them to prepare programmes and projects and to submit the same to the Central Government as there was no deficiency of funds for Sanskrit Colleges and Academies with Government of India.

He said that the perfect form of the Vedic Sanskrit language had already existed thousands of years earlier even before the infancy of the earliest prime languages of the world like Greek, Hebrew and Latin etc.

The Chief Minister decided to revive the earlier status of the constitution of the Academy and it was also decided that the age limit for appointment of secretary of the Academy would not be more than 65 which  would be appointed for a term of five years from the date of appointment.

It was approved to keep the status of secretary as it was earlier.

The Chief Minister directed to fill the post of assistant librarian and senior assistant (accounts) within a week. He also assured the members that if there was a provision of granting Statutory Status to the Academy in other States it could be thought of doing the same in the State.

The Chief Minister also directed to transfer the ownership of ‘Divya Jyoti’ monthly magazine to the Academy and approved publication of research journal (bi-annual) of the Academy jointly with  H.P. University.

He also announced to enhance the wages of those taking part in seminars and workshops from Rs 400 to Rs 500 and from Rs 800 to Rs 1000 for writing research journals.

It was also approved in the meeting to provide training to the ‘Pujaris’ of the temples as per Vedic thoughts and literature.

The Chief Minister said that the dearness allowance would be automatically applicable to the employees of the Academy as and when announced by the Government from time to time.

Earlier, Dr. Mast Ram, Secretary of the Sanskrit Academy welcomed and honoured the Chief Minister.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Shri Neeraj Bharti, Additional Chief Secretaries Shri P.C.Dhiman and Dr. Shrikant Baldi, Vice-Chancellor, HPU, Prof. ADN Bajpai, Director Higher Education, Shri Dinkar Burathoki, Acharaya Madan Mohan, were also present on the occasion amongst others.
