Unprecedented rainy season causes Rs.48 crore of damage in Kangra district: DC

Dharamshala, August 11, 2015: Till date the unprecedented rainy season have caused Rs.48 crore of damage in the Kangra district of Himachal according to the government reports so far. Stating this in Dharamshala, Ritesh Chouhan, Deputy Commissioner of Kangra said, “The highly affected areas are the different schemes of IPH Department and the roads and the bridges in the District.” He said that so far the estimated damage to PWD related areas is Rs.22crore  and Rs.23 crore that of IPH department, where as power supply department also got a loss of around Rs.69 crores in the ongoing Monsoon season. Ritesh said that the revenue department has also calculated a damage of Rs.2.85 crore by rain to government and private properties and the reports are still coming in.
DC Kangra said, “111 domestic animals killed due to drowning, 4 pacca houses collapsed completely and 61 badly damaged whereas 7 katcha houses collapsed and 120 damaged.102 animal sheds washed away and the heavy rains have damaged 13 shops in the district.”
Ritesh informed that the administration has released Rs.1.50 crore as interim help to  SDM’s for distribution to the rain affected people . He also informed that the access water is being released from Pong Dam on Beas river have not created any flood like situation in District and the adjoining areas of Punjab.
