Chandigarh, July 17, 2015: Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak would soon have the facility of kidney transplant and it would be the first institute in Haryana to provide this facility.
A decision to this effect was taken by Haryana Health Minister, Mr Anil Vij while presiding over a meeting at PGIMS, Rohtak today.
He said that doctors and students of the PGIMS, Rohtak would be imparted training for transplanting kidneys in AIIMS, New Delhi. Mr Vij directed Vice Chancellor of PGIMS, Rohtak, Dr O. P. Kalra to take appropriate action. He said that Dr Kalra himself is specialist in Nephrology and could do good work in this direction.
The Health Minister said that for kidney transplant, the people of the state have to visit private hospitals in New Delhi or at other places, but after this facility, the people would be relieved of this problem as they could avail of this facility in their own area at lesser cost. Mr Vij said that the kidney transplant in any private hospital costs between Rs four and Rs five lakh, whereas in PGIMS this would be done in just Rs 50,000.
Mr Vij congratulated the dental college for coming among the top ten colleges for providing excellent services. He said that it is the priority of the government to bring PGIMS, Rohtak among the top ten hospitals in the country.
Mr Vij also directed the concerned officers to ensure that trauma centre at PGIMS, Rohtak becomes functional by April 1 next. He also constituted a three-member committee to complete this work on time.
He said that due to laxity of previous Congress government, this trauma centre had been under construction for the last seven years and so far it has not been dedicated to the people. Therefore, to find out reason of delay in its construction and fixing its responsibility, the investigation was entrusted to former Mission Director, National Health Mission, Mr Vikas Yadav. During the meeting, detailed discussion was held on the issue of trauma centre and directions were issued to overcome all its shortcomings.
Mr Vij also directed the officers to complete all the pending works of construction, purchase of modern equipment, recruitment of staff and meet other important requirements. He said that in 2008, when trauma centre was given approval, no provision of such facilities was provided, but when he visited the site of trauma centre on July 8 and 9, he found many shortcomings in it. Therefore, he said, he called a meeting of officers of PGIMS, Rohtak today. Even after the two years of construction of this trauma centre, during the regime of previous Congress government, it remained closed.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Medical Education and Research, Dr K. K. Khandelwal and other senior officers./ (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
