Dharamshala, July 17, 2015: The entire state of Himachal Pradesh is in the strog grip of monsoon since Wednesday. Almost all the areas of this hill state are getting medium to heavy rain on Friday. All major rivers and their tributaries were in spate.
Guler town in Kangra district recorded the highest rainfall at 166 mm on Friday, followed by Una-155 mm and Dharamshala-135mm of rain officials said. Other towns which received more than 100mm rain were Berthin-128, Palampur-119, Kandaghat-111, Solan-105, Dehra Gopipur-103, Aghar-102 and Amb & Jubbarhatti-101mm. According to the official of the Met department Hamirpur town recorded a rain of 92 mm, while Nadaun-91, Chelsea-90, Shimla-89, Mehre-88, Paonta-82, Rajgarh-81, Dalhousie-77, Nahan-76, Bhoranj-75, Ghamroor-68, Dharampur & Jogindernagar-67, N.Suriyan-60, Gaggal-59, Sujanpur Tira & Nurpur recorded 52 mm of rain in the past 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall in most of places is predicted for Saturday, and the same condition shall continue till 23rd July, the Met department said.
The official clarified that the monsoon is very active in the state because The axis of monsoon trough passes through Ganganagar, Narnaul, Gwalior, Daltanganj, Jamshedpur, Digha and thence southeastwards to eastcentral Bay of Bengal and extends upto 2.1 km above mean sea level.He further said that Yesterday’s Weather readings show that an upper air cyclonic circulation over eastern parts of Jammu & Kashmir and neighborhood extending upto 3.1km persists and is moving away eat-northeastwards. Another report said that an upper air cyclonic circulation over Afghanistan and neighbourhood now lies over Afghanistan & adjoining Pakistan and extends upto mid-tropospheric levels, are the major cause of heavy to very heavy rain in the area .
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over central Pakistan & adjoining West Rajasthan and extends upto 2.1 km above mean sea level.
