Dharamshala being upgraded for drinking water and sewerage plans

Dharamshala, July 16, 2015: Centre government has sanctioned Rs 1.95 crore for the automation of treatment plant of the sewerage system of Dharamshala City in Himachal. This was informed by Rakesh Mahajan Superintending Engineer of Irrigation and Public Health while talking to media in meet the press. Mahajan said, “It is the 1st sewerage system of the urban area in Himachal where more than 90% connections have been materialized.” He said that the inflow capacity of the plant is 5.15 MLT per day, whereas at present the inflow is 3 MLT. SE said that the work on the 29.73 crore new drinking water supply scheme under  UIDSSMT(  Urban infrastructure Development Scheme for Small & Medium Towns ) of central aid to provide  24x7 drinking water supply to the citizens. Mahajan informed, “Around 100 kms of water supply pipes are being laid underground and an underground duct is being planned for construction work in collaboration with PWD along Highway,  to ease  harassment to the public during developmental works .”  20 kms of pipe line are being layed for supply to fire hydrants. A total of 47 fire hydrants shall be erected in the city. He said that the entire work shall be completed by November 16.
Mahajan said, “The other drinking water schemes in progress for urban areas of Kangra District are Rs17.45 crore for Kangra and Rs 11.02 crore for Nagrota Bagwan. Whereas the such work has already been completed in Palampur, Jawalamukhi, Dehra and Nurpur towns of the district.”
Mahajan said that there are a total of 3617 villages in the district with a population of 15,10,075 and all these villages have been covered by pipeline water supply scheme.  He said the department is providing 75 lts water per person per day in villages as against 55 lts in India. In urban areas water is being supplied @ 125lts per capita per day.
