Rs 43.86 crore sanctioned for construction of Panjokhra-Ghaggar link drain and other projects

Chandigarh, July 3, 2015: Haryana Health Minister, Mr Anil Vij said that to save Ambala Cantonment and nearby areas from   floods, more than Rs 43.86 crore have been sanctioned for construction of Panjokhra-Ghaggar link drain and other projects.

Mr. Vij said that a sum of Rs 32.26 crore would be spent on construction of Panjokhra-Ghaggar link drain. This drain would have capacity of 200 cusecs of water which would save about 14,000 acres of area in Ambala and nearby areas from floods and would release the flood water into Ghaggar river. This drain would also help in controlling the flood water entering Haryana from Punjab side. With the construction of this drain, Dhulkot Power House located at Chandigarh-Ambala road would be saved from floods cause damage to it as every year.

The Health Minister said that apart from this, a sum of Rs 1.82 crore has been approved for repair of Panjokhra Minor. The repair work of this 2.9 to 5.5 km long Miner is expected to be completed in next six months.

He said that the downstream sector of Tangri River would be widened from Ambala-Jagadhari road to Ambala-Saharanpur Railway Line which would help in securing the place from floods. A sum of over Rs 1.30 crore would be spent on this work. Similarly, over Rs 4.89 crore would be spent on construction of bridge near RD (Burji) number 21500 to save villages namely Boh, Babyal and Daleepgarh from floods and strengthening of the banks of Maheshnagar drain.

The Minister said that Rs 13.74 lakh would be spent on reconstruction of Maheshnagar Drain from RD number 4000 to 6000. Similarly, Rs 2.97 crore has been earmarked for expansion of Babyal Dam. These works would be started immediately. A sum of Rs 4.74 lakh are being  spent on cleaning of drain. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
