Rajbir Deswal, IPS, Inspector General/Joint Director, Haryana Police Academy addressing an interactive session on “Smart and Humane Policing in Smart Cities”, organsied by Chandigarh Management Association (CMA) at Chandigarh on Sunday.
Chandigarh, June 28, 2015: Chandigarh Management Association (CMA) organised an interactive session on “Smart and Humane Policing in Smart Cities” here today at PHD Chamber, Chandigarh. The session was addressed by Rajbir Deswal, IPS, Inspector General/Joint Director, Haryana Police Academy. Dr.Anshu Kataria, President, CMA & Chaiman, Aryans Group of Colleges presided over the session.
Deswal, while addressing the distinguished audience, said that smart citiesface unique set of challenge that of Law & Order, traffic and crime. A smart city has to be crime free, theft free and there are emerging issues of protection of the most vulnerable in the society from externally instigated religious, social or political disruptions. Deswal said, ‘there is no doubt that to solve these problems the police should be accessible and friendly with citizens’.
Dr. Anshu Kataria, president CMA said that Chandigarh along with its satellite townships of Mohali and Panchkula are fast taking shape of a Metropolis and is confronted with the issues of the Inter-state regions. He said that earlier CMA had organised panel discussions and talks on making the Chandigarh Capital Region as Smart Tricity. While laying down the concepts of a smart city, experts were of the view that besides other aspects, the city should excel in key areas of human security; especially that of children, women and senior citizens.
Deswal further said that modern day training of police make them capable of planning the urban or semi-urban policing related aspects. For that police has to be equipped with advance modules of analytics and critical infrastructure protection tools. In addition, police has to be trained as data scientists capable of using social networking and IT&S, as part of the city’s Smart Policing program. State Governments are taking up various programs to train police force to enable them adapt to the mind set as a helping force and to remove the common perception of citizens that police is harassing force, added Deswal.
After the lecture, a Questions/Answers round was also held. Mr. J.N. Vohra was the moderator on the occasion while Dr. Kataria extended Vote of Thanks to Mr. Deswal at the end of the talk.
