Chandigarh, May 28, 2015: Haryana Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal today said that for the first time, work programme of Rs 1,561 crore has been approved in the beginning of the financial year to repair state roads in all constituencies of the state.
He said that the work programme has been prepared after assessing the condition of all roads and considering the last date of their treatment. The new concept of approving the work programme in the beginning of a year shall go a long way for timely repair of road network. Contrary to it the previous Government used to allocate funds in piecemeal and this process used to run during the whole year, he added.
He said that while Rs 118 crore have been earmarked for State Highways, Rs 98 crore have been allotted for Major District Roads and Rs 1,345 crore for Other District Roads. In addition, special emphasis has been laid to widen the link roads to a width of 5.5 meters and widening the roads connecting the district headquarters to a width of 10 meters. Under this programme, he said, special care shall be taken for improvement and repair of road stretches falling in built up areas. These stretches will be repaired either by raising or providing cement concrete blocks alongwith side drains as per site requirement and keeping in view the availability of disposal point. The road stretches which are low lying and prone to flooding during heavy rains will also be raised as per the requirement at the site, he added. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
