Haryana CM urges scientists to make use of their research for welfare of humanity

Chandigarh, May 23, 2015: Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal has urged the scientists to make use of their research for welfare of humanity and not for the purpose of destruction.

This Chief Minister was speaking after conferring Haryana Vigyan Ratna and Haryana Yuva Vigyan Ratna Awards upon four eminent scientists at a function organized by Haryana Science and Technology Department here on Friday. While Haryana Vigyan Ratna award was bestowed upon Dr Jitendra Nath Verma and Dr Surinder Kumar Mehta, Haryana Yuva Vigyan Ratna Award was bestowed upon Dr Sudesh Kumar Yadav and Dr Pankaj Garg.

The Haryana Vigyan Ratna awardees were honoured with a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, a citation and a trophy whereas Haryana Yuva Vigyan Ratna awardees were honoured with a cash prize of Rs one lakh, a citation and a trophy.

While congratulating the award winning scientists, Mr Manohar Lal said that they have made us proud with their outstanding contribution in the field of science and technology. He said that science is a special type of knowledge and is associated with every small and big aspect of life. The world has been shrinking for the last 50 years because of science. He said that undoubtedly the science has made our life more easy but   the speed with which the science and technology is progressing has posed a threat as its excessive use could also become a source of human destruction. Therefore, the scientist should also set a limit of its usage, he added. 

He said that the State Government has also incorporated the use of science and technology in providing various people centric services like e-registration, online birth registration and CM Window so as to ensure transparency, hassle free services and minimize human interface. He said that with the use of these services, the people could get the delivery of various services by sitting at home.

Haryana Vigyan Ratna Award was conferred upon Dr. Jitendra Nath Verma, Managing Director Lifecare Innovations Pvt. Ltd. Gurgaon for his work on development of innovative healthcare products for unmet medical needs, developing affordable alternative and for addressing to medical problems.

Dr. Surinder Kumar Mehta, Chairman Department of Chemistry and Centre of Advanced Studies in Chemistry Punjab University Chandigarh was awarded with Haryana Vigyan Ratna Award for his significant contribution in the field of Surfactant Chemistry and Nanochemistry.

Haryana Yuva Vigyan Ratna award was conferred upon Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Senior Scientist, CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, Palampur (HP), who contributed in the field of crop protection and crop yield improvement through the use of plant biotechnology.

Dr. Pankaj Garg, Associate Professor, MM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Mullana and Senior Consultant-Surgery, Alchemist Hospital, Panchkula was also conferred with Haryana Yuva Vigyan Ratna Award. Dr. Garg has invented several new operations notable amongst them being GARG PERFECT operation to treat complex anal fistula and GARG LOCULA operation for pilonidal disease.

MLA Panchkula Mr Gian Chand Gupta, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr Rajesh Khullar, Principal Secretary, Haryana Science and Technology Department Mrs Sumita Misra, Director Mr Pankaj Aggarwal and other senior officers and large number of students of different schools were also present on this occasion. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
