Chandigarh, May 21, 2015: Haryana Government has decided to make a contingent plan for meeting any exigency demand of water at peak summer season.
While stating this here today, Public Health Engineering Minister Mr Rao Narbir Singh said that the contingent plan would include various important issues. He said that a campaign would be launched immediately to check the wastage by providing taps on connections and identify leakages in pipelines in the urban and rural areas and immediate steps would be taken to rectify these leakages so as to prevent wastage as well as contamination of drinking water.
He said that adequate disinfection would be ensured before supply of drinking water to the consumers. Wherever, there is chronic problem of electricity, interaction and meetings would be held with Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam or Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam officers for solving the problem. It would be ensured that stand by generating sets are in working order wherever installed.
Mr Singh said that the issue regarding release of pending electric connections would be pursued vigorously with Distribution Companies, so that schemes could be commissioned and benefit could be given to the public.
He said that a close liaison would be maintained with the Irrigation Department for ensuring adequate supply of canal water. The field officers would also ensure that during the running period of canal, the water storage tanks are filled up, without fail. Wherever, there is shortage of raw water, the meetings would be held with Irrigation department. The date of filling of stainless steel tanks etc. would be updated on departmental website during each running of canal.
The problem regarding shortage of canal water and electricity would be brought to the notice of the District Administration and would also be raised at various platforms, Mr Singh added.
The Public Health Engineering Minister said that in far flung areas where the department is unable to supply drinking water from the existing sources in-spite of all efforts, arrangement would be made for providing drinking water through tankers with permission of concerned Chief Engineers by constituting a committee by involving Gram Panchayat or municipal authorities.
He said that wherever the ground water table has receded, immediate steps would be taken to further lower pumping machinery, so that adequate discharge could be maintained.
Mr Singh said that whenever, a scheme becomes dysfunctional on account of any reason, for a period of more than 24 hours, the same would be brought to the notice of Head office and in the meanwhile immediate steps would be taken to make the scheme functional. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
