Chandigarh, May 15, 2015: The Integrated Agromet Advisory Service Unit of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar has predicted possibility of dry weather and increase in temperature from May 16 to 20.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of the University said that the maximum temperature is likely to be between 38 and 42 degree Celsius and minimum between 22 and 25 degree Celsius. The average wind speed would range from four to ten kilometer per hour.
Keeping in view possibility of dry and rise in temperature, farmers are advised to do irrigation in sown vegetable and fodder crop. Deep ploughing is advisable in harvested rabi crop field so that eggs and pupae of insects and weed seeds are destroyed due to expose of sunlight.
Farmers have been advised to prepare the nursery with certified seed of paddy as per recommended by university. Keeping in view the possibility of dry weather, farmers are advised for sowing of Desi/Bt. Cotton during the period. Sowing of Desi/Bt. Cotton with recommended varieties/cultivars. Seed treatment must de done before sowing of cotton crop with 5 gram Amishan+1 g Streptocycline+1 g Succinic acid in 10 liter water and add 5-6 kh lint cotton seed in the solution and keep it 6 to 8 hours or 6 to 8 kg d-lint cotton seed put in the solution for 2 hours only. If termite infestation in the field that treat 1 kg cotton seed with 10 ml Chlorpyrifos 20 EC+10 ml water before sown.
Farmers are advised to complete the sowing of Bajra, Lobia, Sudan and Napiar grass for summer during this period.
Keeping in view the possibility of dry weather and heat wave, farmers are advised to keep the animals under shed. Provide 50 grams of Iodized salt and 50 to 100 grams mineral mixture daily with animal feed and fodder to keep them healthy. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
