Chandigarh, May 15, 2015: Haryana Police and Indian Oil Corporation(IOC) today decided to jointly take effective steps to check theft of petrol by maintain vigil on the petrol pipelines passing through the Karnal Range.
While stating this on Thursday, a spokesman of Haryana Police Department said that it was also decided in a joint meeting that both Haryana Police and IOC would together check pilferage of petrol and keep vigil on those already involved in theft of petrol in the area. The issue of checking of pilferage of petrol from the pipelines of Panipat-Bhatinda, Panipat-Jalandhar, Kurukshetra-Roorkee-Naziabaad and Mathura-Jalandhar passing through the Karnal Range was discussed in detail.
He said that Inspector General of Police, Mr Hanif Qureshi, who presided over the meeting in Karnal today, expressed serious concern over the theft of petrol from the pipelines passing through the districts of Karnal, Kaithal, Kurukshtra and Yamunanagar. He also assured the officers of IOC full cooperation of the state police in checking this menace of theft of petrol.
Qureshi also issued strict instructions to the deputy Superintendents of Police to ensure safety of petrol pipelines in their respective districts adding that police patrol should be deployed along the pipeline to ensure their safeties. He also asked them to not only keep an eye on those who had been involved in theft of petrol from the pipelines but also keep them questioning so as to prevent reoccurrence of such incidents in future. He also suggested the officers of the IOC that while patrolling the pipelines, they should seek the help of police. The officers of IOC informed Qureshi, although they had been getting support of the police yet they would require more assistance from police in days to come. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
