Chandigarh, May 14, 2015: Haryana Women and Child Development Minister Kavita Jain today said that under the ‘Scheme for the Homes for Widows and Destitute’ now the young widows and destitute women in the State would be able to get shelters initially for five years, which would be extendable by another three years and further extendable by another five years in exceptional circumstances.
Jain said that the main purpose of the scheme is to provide shelter to the young widows and destitute women. Earlier, such women were provided temporary shelter initially for three years. It was extendable by another two years in exceptional circumstances, with the maximum period of five years.
She said that now, the young widows and destitute women in the State would get shelter initially for five years extendable by another three years on the recommendation of review committee and further extendable by another five years in exceptional circumstances with the approval of the Committee under the Chairmanship of the Director General, Women and Child Development Department. The other members of the Committee would be Additional Director and Joint Director, Women and Child Development Department and concerned officers.
The Minister said that in case of destitute women, mentally and physically challenged or any other specific case, the period to get shelter could be extended by the State Level Committee under the Chairmanship of Women and Child Development Minister. The Committee has representatives of Health Department, Social Justice and Empowerment Department and Women and Child Development Department, she added. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
