Chandigarh, May 14, 2015: P K Das, Principal Secretary, Haryana Finance Department, has urged the banks to accelerate the pace of work to ensure successful  and widespread implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojna, Atal Pension Yojna and other such social security schemes.

Speaking as chief guest at the 132nd meeting of the State Level Bankers’ Committee organized here on Wednesday, he said that a strong social security system was being put in place through such schemes and more persons should be linked with them. He reviewed the progress report of the Annual Credit Plan, loans being provided under various government programmes, and rescheduling of the loans of farmers whose crops were damaged by unseasonal rain and hailstorms.

Asho Yadav, Director General, Social Justice and Empowerment, asked the bankers that beneficiaries getting pension in their bank accounts under social security schemes should not be asked to maintain minimum balance. Such accounts should be on zero balance.

The pension distribution work through banks would be completed by August 15.

Referring to the distributing of pension through banks, he said that only 6.52 lakh accounts had been uploaded on the system. This speed is very slow and should be accelerated. The pace of uploading bank accounts is the slowest in southern Haryana. Mistakes like uploading bank account of one person more than once has also come to light, he pointed out.

The Director General and Secretary, Electronics and Information Technology Department, Mr. Vijender Kumar, said that 87 per cent population of the state had been  linked with Aadhar Card according to Census 2011. It is estimated that 24 lakh children between one and 6 years of age are also not linked with the scheme.

The state government has started the procedure of providing government services to the people at their doorsteps through Citizen Service Centres, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, MD, Punjab National Bank, Mr. Gauri Shankar, expressed concern over the functioning of various banks in providing education loan to students. Since right to education is the right of every youngster, banks should accelerate their system of providing education loan, he added.  / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
