Red Cross Volunteers Pins Red Cross Flag To Punjab Governor

Chandigarh, May 6, 2015: Red Cross Volunteers of Sarvbhitkari Vidya Mandir, Talwara, Junior Red Cross  Model School led by CS Talwar, (Retd.)IAS, Secretary Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State Branch, today pinned a Red Cross Flag on Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Prof.Kaptan Singh Solanki at Raj Bhavan to mark the celebrations of Red Cross Day.

Appreciating the theme of this year’s World Red Cross Day Power of Humanity, Our Principles in Action”,   Prof. Solanki said that this day, which is observed all over the world, presents a great opportunity to learn about the international efforts of the Red Cross and also reminds us of our social obligation to contribute in minimizing the sufferings of humanity and to continue to adhere to the basic principles – humanitarianism, compassion, universality and voluntary service – that universally characterize the Red Cross.

Prof. Solanki appealed to all especially the youth to join hands with Red Cross on this special day and to commit to this noble cause by sparing time, expertise and knowledge. He said one convenient way to do so is to get in touch with Red Cross and wear the Red Cross Flag with pride and join this movement.

Highlighting the achievements of Punjab Red Cross Society, CS Talwar, (Retd.)IAS, Secretary Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State Branch, disclosed that the Punjab Red Cross, with its District Level Branches, has been playing a significant role in alleviating human misery and pain. Apart from the free supply of medicines to thousands of poor patients, Red Cross has been providing much needed services to the most deserving people through Maternity and Child Health Care Centres, Drug De-Addiction Centres, Blood Banks . It has also undertaken awareness programmes including Prevention of HIV/AIDS, Female Foeticide etc by involving students and teachers from schools and colleges and other NGOs, he added.

Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Des Raj Sharma, Principal, Anju Sharma, Junior Red Cross Councillor and K.K. Saini, Sr. Field Officer Red Cross.
