Dharamsala, April 27, 2015: To keep an strict vigilance on the movement of terrorists along the J&K border in the Chamba district of Himachal, the tri state police meetings shall be restarted between Punjab , Himachal and J&K. This was stated by ADGP Law & Order HP, Sanjay Kunddu in Dharamsala on Monday. He was briefing the media after a visit to the border areas of Chamba.
Kundu said,” Though there is no alarming activity in the HP-J&K border at present, Still HP shall create a new police post in Khairi sector of the area to raise the strength of border posts to 13.” He said that this will restrict any possible filtration. Chamba(HP) share 200 Km border with J&K, the possible route for terrorists to infiltrate. After the withdrawal of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) from a 64-km sensitive terrorist-infested border stretch between Jammu and Kashmir and Chamba district in Himachal in 2012,the state police have been compelled to scale down the number of posts along the border for an acute paucity of manpower and non-preparedness. There are currently 12 posts along the border adjoining Doda and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir The border remained tranquil till 1998, when Pakistan-trained militants massacred 35 labourers in two separate incidents in Satrundi and Kalaban in the Chamba district. As the border has been peaceful for 14 years, the Central government recalled the ITBP battalion that mans the inter-state border, and since then HP Police is guarding the border.
Kunddu said that the state government has deployed 6 to 8 women constables in each police station in the state to help women to report crimes without fear. Kunddu said, “This step has increased the crime reporting considerably, is the mark of success of the facility.”
ADGP said that the Himachal Police has become the 1st state police in the country to start Road Accident Data Management System RADMS with help of World Bank. The results of the system will indicate the main cause of road accidents in a particular area to help police to plug them up. Kunddu said, “At average 3100 road accidents occur every year in HP, claiming around 1100 lives.”
He said that all the temple authorities of the state have been advised to install CCTV cameras in the temples, appoint watchmen and security locks the donation boxes. All the Police stations are ordered to prepare the history sheets of the thieves striking the temples in the state.
