Ludhiana, April 2, 2015: In a bid to call attention of the civil society and the government in power, Human Rights Organisations and Sikh bodies would take embark on a unique way of protest by cycling through the streets of Delhi on April 11. The 31 kms cycle rally is to protest against denial of justice for 31 years to the humanity and Sikh community in particular, said senior advocate H.S.Phoolka, who would lead the cycle rally along with others.
In a statement here today, he added it’s a shameful episode in the history of Nation that 3000 people according to the official figure were killed in Delhi within 48 hours in November 1984. One Sikh was killed every minute on streets of Delhi, hardly anyone is awarded punishment. Successive Governments keep on shielding the culprits. Clean chit was discreetly given by CBI under the control of Modi led government to Jagdish Tytler in December 2014. The recent development has enraged all right thinking citizens, the victims and the Sikh community in particular.
The cycle rally would start from Tilak Nagar and would cover 31 kms, going through various colonies, it would culminate at Jantar Mantar to protest against the government’s apathy. The participants would present a memorandum to the PM. This event is being organised by Human Rights Groups and all are invited to participate in it.
MODE OF PROTEST
Phoolka and his team has been using cycling as a medium to make aware different issues to the people in the past too. He headed a cycling team which travelled 100 kms against the VVIP culture in Punjab recently.
The mode of protest through cycling also emphasises the need to promote cycling and other non - polluting methods of transport in Delhi, in view of alarming levels of pollution in Delhi.
