Visits Jallianwala Bagh to pay homage to the martyrs
Amritsar, March 23, 2015: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid obeisance at the sanctum santorum of Sri Harmandir Sahib.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of Chief Minister’s Office said that Modi flew back to Amritsar from Ferozepur in the evening to pay obeisance at Sri Hamandir Sahib, where he offered degh (Karah Parsad), listened to the Gurbani and did parikarma.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister was accompanied by the Punjab Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Union Minister of State for Social Justice Vijay Sampla. Modi was honored with a siropa, a sword and a model of Sri Darbar Sahib by the Head Granthi of Sri Darbar Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh at the Information Office in Sri Harmandir Sahib.
Later, the Prime Minister also visited the historic Jallianwala Bagh and paid glorious tributes to the several martyrs who laid down for their motherland during this brutal tragedy. Modi evinced keen interest at the martyrs’ well, where many innocent persons jumped into it in a bid to save their lives. At the last leg of his one day journey to the holy city, he also visited the Sri Durgiana Temple and offered prayers there. He was also honored by the Management Committee of the Sri Durgiana Mandir.
Earlier, Narendra Modi was accorded a warm welcome at Sri Guru Ramdas International Airport on his arrival and was received by the Punjab Goverrnor Prof. Kaptain Singh Solanki, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Minister of State for Social Justice Vijay Sampla, Information & Public Relations Minister Punjab Bikram Singh Majithia , Animal Husbandry Minister Punjab Gulzar Singh Ranike, Local Government Minister Anil Joshi, Mayor Bakshi Ram Arora, Chief Secretary Punjab Sarvesh Kausal, Commissioner Jalandhar Division, R. Venketaratnam, DGP Sumedh Saini, Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat, Commissioner of Police Jatinder Singh Aulakh, National Secretary Tarun Chugh, BJP President Kamal Sharma, Manoranjan Kalia. Besides several senior leaders and workers of SAD-BJP and members of SGPC were also present on the occasion.
