Jalandhar , March 10, 2015: Indian Army Commemorated the Centenary of the Battle of Neuve Chapple, France, during the First World War, on 09 Mar 2015, where maximum Indian Soldiers made the supreme sacrifice. During this Great War, India contributed over 1.5 million men out of which 74,000 were killed and over 67,000 were wounded in various battle fields of Europe, Africa and Asia. The gallantry and sacrifices of the Indian soldiers was officially recognised by the award of 11 Victoria Crosses and 9,800 other awards. The gallantry of Indian soldiers in this war introduced India to the World and to Europe in particular. The time period 2014 to 2018 is being Commemorated as the Centenary of World War-I.
To mark the centenary of the Great War a Wreath Laying ceremony was organised by Vajra Corps, here, on 09 Mar 2015 at Vajra Shaurya Sthal. Maj Gen Deepak Dhanda, SM, Vajra Corps was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Maj Gen Deepak Dhanda paid homage to the world war-I heroes by laying wreaths on the war memorial.
